About Nick Hughes

  • I'm an experienced freelance writer and editor specialising in food and environmental affairs with an additional focus on retail, marketing, property and politics.

  • I've had articles published in titles including The Times, The Grocer, Retail Week, Marketing, Property Week, TES, Drapers,  FoodNavigator.com, Food Manufacture, The Ecologist, The Food Chain and Wicked Leeks and am Associate Editor of Footprint magazine.

  • I write, edit and project manage reports for a wide variety of publishers and other organisations and have written copy for clients including the European Commission and Chefs In Schools.

  • I'm an experienced event moderator and co-host of the Footprint40 podcast.

  • I have carried out consultancy and policy work for a number of NGOs including Friends of the Earth and Eating Better.

  • I worked as a policy adviser as part of the Elliott Review into the Integrity and Assurance of Food Supply Networks, commissioned by the government following the horsemeat scandal.

  • Between 2014 and 2019 I worked for WWF as a food sustainability adviser leading a programme of work to develop sustainable meals for foodservice company Sodexo.

  • I have a MSc in Food Policy with Distinction from City University.
